20th Ambracian Gulf Crossing: A Unique Athletic and Environmental Event
The Municipality of Arta announces the “20th Ambracian Gulf Crossing” swimming event, taking place from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, July 28, 2024. This historic race is part of the “SAVE THE AMBRACIAN GULF” campaign, which aims to raise awareness and protect this unique ecosystem.
The main event will occur on Sunday, July 28, where athletes will cross the Ambracian Gulf, covering a distance of approximately 11 km. Parallel events to be held in Koronisia include:
- Road races organized by the Arta Runners Club
- Stargazing by the “Astrolavos” Society
- Kite surfing races by the Koronisia Nautical Club
- Petanque (petank) demonstration
- Hiking on the Agios Onoufrios trail
- Music night with AMVRAKIA FM
- Paramotor flight demonstrations, and the parallel swimming event “Ionian Swimming Challenge”. This 3 km route from the 2nd Ivary of Salaora to Koronisia will allow more swimmers to participate in the effort to save the Ambracian Gulf. Participation in all events is free, and interested parties can register online until Sunday, July 21, 2024.
Participant safety is a priority for the organizers. In the main route, swimmers will be accompanied by boats equipped with GPS for guidance and safety. Throughout the Crossing, rescue boats with specialized personnel and full medical equipment will be on standby, and comprehensive medical coverage will be provided. Participants are required to undergo a medical examination before the start and sign a liability waiver. After the race, the top three male and female winners will be awarded commemorative trophies, and all participants will receive commemorative medals.
